Madrid Street Art Project

With the warm spring temperatures and the sun making regular appearances, everyone wants to get out on the street and plans multiply themselves, whether they are cultural, leisure, drinks on a terrace… any excuse is a good one so you can get some sun in after a long winter. Because days are longer, you can now enjoy a late afternoon on a nice terrace having a cool drink and, if your surroundings change and become pure art, all the better.

That is precisely what will happen on the streets of the legendary district of Lavapiés because from the 7th until the 21st of May, most of them will become an artistic intervention. C.A.L.L.E. is the name of this colourful and creative festival that, for the second year running, lands on the facades, shop windows and exterior spaces of shops to turn them into a huge masterpiece of urban art.

Large murals, installations made with Lego pieces that make up optimistic and motivational words, or the fun selfie self-mirrors, along with photographs, reflections, sculptures, drawings or collages among other artistic expressions will be on show during these days in Lavapiés.

All of this is organised by the Shopkeepers Association of Lavapiés in an effort to turn their district into an attraction for locals and visitors. Only 12 months after its creation, this festival is already a must in all calendars.

More than 40 artists from Spain and around the world have decided to take part in this adventure that, also, has the support of the beer brand Mahou in order to give this initiative more visibility that supports culture and leisure in the city.

C.A.L.L.E. was created by Stéphane Abondance and supported by Diana Prieto, from Madrid Street Art Project, who is coordinating the exhibition. They both joined forces to attract great artists to the event such as Dr. Homes, Chylo, Sue, Jola or Ze Carrión among many others.

Do not miss out on the chance to enjoy a unique walk around this district. From Hotel Liabeny, you can get to this improvised and short urban art gallery just a 15-minute walk away.

Make the most of your stay in Madrid to enjoy our accommodation in the centre of Madrid at an excellent price.
