Madrid… de picnic
There is no more fun and romantic plan than a picnic in a beautiful garden, park or field. Perhaps it is due to the influence of love films or because nature is a great place to escape from the stress of the city. In any case, a picnic is always a great plan.
For those of us in Madrid during this summer (a plan which can also be carried out in spring, autumn and even on sunny winter days), here are the most interesting options for going for a picnic without leaving the city in its most beautiful spots. Whether it is with your partner, you friends or with kids, go out to a park and enjoy a day or an afternoon there, it will recharge your energy levels.
You can prepare a picnic yourself at home if you fancy cooking and you like surprising people. What you need first and foremost are sandwiches, fruit, water, cutlery and dishes, a nice wine or cold cava… and, of course, a red and white chequered tablecloth or one with flowers to give it a more authentic touch. Now you just have to choose which park to surprise your guests.
However, if you don’t have time and want everything to be ready with a single call or e-mail, there are many “ready-to-enjoy” options in Madrid.
PicnicMadrid is a new initiative that makes the most of Madrid’s wonderful parks in order to prepare the best picnic you can imagine. Homemade products (always with quality and safety checks), in abundance and fully customisable make up the gastronomic offer.
Another of the options is the one prepared by Magasand, so you can take your picnic even more prepared with everything you need. You just need to call or write to them and they will have everything ready for you to pick up in their shop at El Retiro. Delicious sandwiches, cold vegetable and legume salads, refreshing drinks… you can’t miss out on them!
Where? You choose:
- Parque El Retiro: known as Madrid’s green lung, it offers different locations where you can have your picnic. You have more than 290 acres at your disposal.
- Temple of Debod: enjoy your picnic next to Madrid’s oldest monument, a monument of Egyptian origin. Located in the heart of Madrid, between Plaza de España, Palacio Real and Almudena Cathedral, this is a unique location to enjoy the views.
Temple of Debod
- Madrid Rio: a unique park of 4 miles in length where you can find fountains, ponds, bridges, gardens, children’s play areas and many green spaces that are perfect for you to enjoy your picnic.
- Parque Juan Carlos I: if you like family picnics, this is the park for you. There you can fly a kite, do some exercise, stroll around the park and spot the 20 giant sculptures, see the olive tree grove, the lake and the river.
