Mercado de Motores

How many times have you come to Madrid and not noticed the existence of Mercado de Motores? What is it, you ask? If you really don’t know about this event which takes place every second weekend of every month, it’s better that we start at the beginning.

You could say that Mercado de Motores is one of the best-kept secrets in the city of Madrid, unknown even to many locals. It’s a monthly event that takes place in the Museo del Ferrocarril (Railway Museum), next to Delicias train station. Tourists, both Spanish and from around the world, mix with local hipsters to buy vintage clothes, accessories and furniture, unique crafts, paintings, oil paintings and flowers among many other products, which you can find in the stands. On top of it all and with a bit of luck, you can enjoy all of this with a bit of live music.

This market’s offer also includes cafés, fast-food stands (national and international products) and restaurants, where you can eat with your partner, friends or family. And since we’re talking about families, Mercado de Motores is a perfect opportunity to take the children for a day out so they can enjoy activities designed especially for their age, such as travelling on a miniature train.

We’re not finishing the entry without talking about the latest unique feature of this event, perhaps the most important one. Mercado de Motores transports visitors to the golden era of railways, with tickets for all ages that grants access inside old trains, which with time have become works of stunning artistic beauty. The market is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11.00 a.m. until 10.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. respectively.
